ARTFUL DODGER TAKES 3rd!

Account by Mike Sigmund – BUCC #3687

On Saturday, the winds started out heavy, and I think Steve and Margaret were tentative in the first two races. As the day went on they sailed much more confidently─it is their home lake─as evidenced with a bullet in the 4th race.

On Sunday, Steve was focused on sailing at the front of the fleet, while Rick may have neglected to consider Steve as a threat until too late? Afterall, Rick felt he was battling Jimmy and Kristi for the top spot.

As the winds abated on Saturday, the left side of the course became favored, and again on Sunday the left side was favored fom the start. The local guys (Steve, Patrick, Ronnie & Derek) all sailed to that side while the rest of us often went the other way with mixed results. In the last race on Sunday the wind was light and shifty, so the local sailors worked that to their advantage, pulling away from the rest of us on the downwind finishes.

aaarrrr…. Mike
